Little Night Cat by Sonja Danowski
A lovely book that teaches children to be generous and kind to animals. A little boy named Tony selflessly donates all his stuffed animals to the local animal shelter’s raffle. At the shelter, he meets a gray cat named Valentine waiting to be adopted. At bedtime that night, he misses his stuffed animals. So his mother takes out a gray stuffed cat that she had as a child to comfort Tony. The stuffed animal is old and ragged, so together they sew new eyes onto the cat and Tony sleeps contentedly snuggled with it. The next day, Tony gets a wonderful surprise after school: his mother has adopted Valentine and he is now their cat! A gentle story, with soft illustrations in muted colors of Tony’s home and the animals, stuffed and real, as well as music for a song entitled “Little Night Cat” composed by the author.
