Who Wants a Tortoise? by Dave Keane and illustrated by K.G. Campbell

A sweet story about a little girl who wants a dog more than anything, but her father is allergic to dogs, so she gets a tortoise. She is very unhappy about this: “Who wants a tortoise!” she exclaims, and won’t even name her new pet. A tortoise can’t do any of the things a dog can do. But as time goes on, she gets attached to the tortoise and discovers there are some fun things you can do with a tortoise. When he gets lost, her affection for him is cemented and he ends up being named Rover. With soft watercolor and colored pencil illustrations that express the girl’s feelings from rejection to love.
