Hammer and Nails by Josh Bledsoe and illustrated by Jessica Warrick

This is a cute picture book that celebrates the relationship between fathers and daughters. When her friend cancels their play date, Darcy is grumpy and is sure her day is ruined. Dad comes to the rescue – implementing a Darcy and Daddy Day. The rules? Daddy does one thing on Darcy’s list and then Darcy does one thing on Daddy’s list. In this manner, Daddy dresses up in a tutu, Darcy helps mow the grass, Daddy gives Darcy a manicure, and Darcy helps repair their fence by pounding nails into the loose boards. The affection between father and daughter is lovely and the illustrations are fun, juxtaposing the big, burly dad and the feminine little girl. It’s refreshing to see a picture book featuring fathers and daughters spending quality time together.
