Safe in a Storm by Stephen R. Swineburne and illustrated by Jennifer A. Bell

This is a sweet and comforting picture book depicting different animal parents keeping their young safe and secure during a storm. It opens with a collie dog and her puppy going into a house from the backyard as a storm is brewing and then shows the following animals with their young in their safe places as the storm rages: moles, ducks, whales, giraffes, wolves, sloths, owls, bobcats, sheep, chimps, bears, and rabbits. The book then ends with the collie and her pup inside the house snuggled together on a dog bed as we see the rain through the window. The story is told in rhyming couplets and illustrated with a double-page spread for each animal family. This book could be used for children afraid of thunderstorms or as a bedtime story with its soothing words and soft, muted illustrations.
