If It Rains Pancakes: Haiku and Lantern Poems by Brian P. Cleary and illustrated by Andy Rowland (juvenile nonfiction)

This is a fun poetry book for kids. It defines haiku and lantern poems, two types of ancient Japanese poems, and includes 20 original haiku poems and 15 original lantern poems with illustrations. Some of the poems are funny, such as one about raining pancakes and one about a pet pig doing karate, while some of them about nature use lovely descriptive images, such as one about spring and one about a sunset. A good book to introduce children to these forms of poetry and encourage them to write a poem of their own.
