And Then It’s Spring by Julie Fogliano and illustrated by Erin E. Stead

A sweet picture book about the anticipation of a boy and his dog for spring’s arrival. When the world is still brown, a boy plants some seeds in his yard. He then anxiously awaits the first sign of green, but it is still “brown, all around you have brown” and weeks go by with the boy checking outside hopefully for some green amidst the brown. Then one day, there is “green, all around you have green.” The illustrations are charming and funny, including the antics of the dog and a turtle and rabbit that are featured on each page. A celebration of that wonderful time of year when the cold finally breaks and the world starts to come alive again.
