Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson

A wonderful picture book to encourage and celebrate imagination. A little boy named Harold decides one night that he wants to go for a walk. So he takes only his purple crayon and with it, he creates a magical world where he has adventures. But Harold remains in control of his adventures – he wants to go for a walk in the moonlight, so he draws the moon. When he feels hungry, he draws a picnic for himself. When he finds himself in difficulty underwater, he draws a boat and sails away. In the end, when he has had his fill of adventures and is ready to go home, he draws his house and bed and goes to sleep. A simple but fun story that will inspire children. There are also several sequels to this title that continue Harold’s adventures.
