When the Wind Stops by Charlotte Zolotow

This picture book is a lovely celebration of the cycle of life. At the end of a glorious summer day, a little boy asks his mother why the day needs to end. The mother then explains how nothing really ends – it just begins in another place or in a different way. For example, the rain goes back into the clouds to make new storms and the leaves go back into the ground to become part of new trees. The little boy goes to sleep, reassured that night follows day and a new day will follow the night. A gentle, sweet story.
