Nobody’s Dog by Charlotte Graeber
This is a sweet picture book about an older lady and a dog finding each other. The dog is left abandoned on a residential street. A few families on the street give the dog water and set out food for him, but no one wants to take him in. The dog decides he wants to live at Miss Pepper’s house and each day, he crawls or digs under her gate. Each time, Miss Pepper shoos him away. She has a beautiful flower garden and she doesn’t want a dog digging up her flowers or crushing them. But as the days go by and the persistant dog keeps showing up, Miss Pepper’s heart softens to him and she finally takes him in. A heart-warming story with lovely watercolor illustrations.
