My Daniel

My Daniel by Pam Conrad

A touching, bittersweet story about an 80-year-old grandmother named Julie who visits her two grandchildren in New York from Nebraska and takes them to the Natural History Museum in order to show them the dinosaur she and her brother Daniel discovered on the Nebraska plains decades earlier. As they wander the museum, Julie tells the children the story of that long-ago summer when Daniel began his hunt for a dinosaur and the tragic end to the summer. Although the book is sad because we learn that Daniel died, Julie is a character that you care about and the story is exciting with a lovely ending as Julie sees the dinosaur again for the first time since that summer. I read this book as a child and was very moved by it and have remember it all these years.
