Kitten’s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes
In this sweet picture book, Kitten mistakes the full moon for a bowl of milk. She tries to reach the milk in several failed attempts. Each time, the book repeats, “Poor kitten! Still, there was the little bowl of milk, just waiting.” In her final attempt, she sees the moon’s reflection in a pond and jumps in, getting all wet. This discourages her and she goes home, where she finds a bowl of milk on the porch waiting for her, which makes for a sweet ending after all her misadventures. Winner of the Caldecott Medal. A good book for reading aloud to preschoolers due to the repetitive text and situations where children can predict what will happen next.
