Mole and the Baby Bird by Marjorie Newman
A gentle picture book to teach children that wild animals should not be pets. Mole finds an injured baby bird and nurses it back to health. His parents tell him that he needs to release the bird, but Mole wants to keep it and makes a cage for it. However, when he goes for a walk with his grandfather to the top of a hill and sees the beautiful world around him and feels the wind in his face, he finally realizes that birds are meant to be free and fly. When they get home from their walk, Mole releases the bird and it flies free. A sweet story of love and responsibility.
