Claude the Dog: A Christmas Story

Claude the Dog by Dick Gackenbach

One of my all-time favorite picture books! It is a very simple story, but so sweet and it teaches a wonderful lesson about love and sharing. Claude the dog receives lovely gifts for Christmas. He is showing them to his friend Bummer, a homeless dog. One by one, Claude gives all of his gifts to Bummer. Bummer protests that Claude will be left with nothing, but Claude says his greatest gift is at home. We then see Claude running through the door of his house into the arms of his boy. I’ve given this book as a Christmas present to all the children in my life. There is a series of books about Claude, this being the first. I highly recommend them all.
